Coffee plants are those evergreen shrubs that provide reddish berries with a distinctive smell and a smooth aroma. Green coffee pods are the seeds of the plant. Each plant will have a number of berries and these cherries are harvested sometime during the middle part of the year.

Before you see your coffee pods in the shop, they undergo two major processing methods called dry process and a wet process. Most of the coffee pods that are produced in the world are dry processed, which means that the green coffee beans are usually unwashed and sun dried. The wet process involves washing the green beans to cure them partially. Though high quality coffee is produced from these beans, the beans may get damaged due to fungus infestation, no matter how you process them.
