Deception: Toned Down and Dressed Up

By: Daniel LaLond Jr.

Was it a day like today? Did the dawn chase away midnight dreams? From mountain peaks to valley floors, surely all creation joined nature's chorus as the Almighty's symphony sprang to life. This voiceless choir sang utopian melodies of heavenly ecstasy while lions and lambs shared breakfast leaves.

Neither sharp words nor even weeds corrupted this unspoiled paradise. Did the bluebird's breezy refrain awaken our earliest parents? Perhaps their eyes opened at the gentle shove of an affable beast. They loved and laughed and honor held sway. Then revolt. Betrayal!

By dusk the songbird's chorus surrendered its felicity and even the meadows wore sullen shades. Sighs and moans ran through bending blades searching for comfort, but finding none. Murky waters lay still under scarlet skies as creation's back bent under the load of treason's atrocity. Chaos enfolded order, lions roared and consciences sought clothes. Offering sedition no reward, with angels and fiery swords God promised an end to sin's opposition.

If sorrow flowed like spring streams and tears poured like rain surely this evening beheld both. Did Adam forget the decree of his God? Did Eve consider the significance of her sin? How did such disaster occur? They walked with the Almighty every day! Their minds were strong and their bodies perfect. They contended with just one temptation. Just one! What was their explanation? What was their reasoning?

Did our first parents lack faith in the honor of their Creator's clear warning; in the day that you eat from it you will surely die. (Gen 2:17)? Did they think that somehow they could hinder the declaration of almighty God, or that He might alter His divine edict? Perhaps they hoped for a celestial case of amnesia.

What dementia seized the minds of the holy pair? Friend, like a cerebral stranglehold, "Ye shall not surely die" fastened its grip on the perfect minds of paradise. If Satan's lying promise duped our pre-fall parents who enjoyed daily, physical communion with their Creator, only our heavenly Father knows the exponentially greater possibility of our deception.

Friend, nothing changes a satanic lie into a divine truth. Nothing! Just as nothing makes one plus one equal three, nothing can make, "Ye will not surely die," a true sentiment when addressed to anyone, professing Christian believer or not, who persists in disobedience to God. Though popular but deceived modern, evangelical Christian teachers dress-up, tone-down, disguise and Christianize the devil's lie, "Ye will not surely die," remains hell's booze tragically dulling the minds and shutting the eyes of men!
