Growing Muscles While Sleeping

By: Lena Hellsten

Are you one of those people that do everything right and still don't feel like you're gaining muscles as fast as you would like? You work out well at the gym and eat a lot of protein and quality foods, but it just doesn't come to you. Where's your muscular body? If you've really ticked off your list and you honestly can say that your attempt to gain is sincere, there might be another aspect to it that you've missed.

Sleep.

If you don't give your body a good amount of sleep you can be sure that you will have to work twice as hard as you would if each night you got around 8 full hours. Are you stressed out and having trouble going to sleep? Is your sleep light with lot of interruptions? Take a close look at your sleeping patterns and see if you're getting a full night's quality sleep each night.

Have you ever wondered why children sleep a lot more then adults? Surely a lot of things are being improved while they are sleeping but most certainly they grow a lot more than adults. Most bodily growth happens while we are sleeping and this is why sleep is so important.

When you've been asleep for about 40 minutes your level of growth hormones raises, and this includes the amount of testosterone which is on of the most important hormones for muscle growth. The growth hormones aids the process in which nutrition is being transformed into new muscular cells.

Without a proper deep sleep this process will fall behind since the body will be set on work-mode all the time, not being able to switch to the relax-mode where this all happens naturally.

If you find it hard to fall asleep, don't worry about it. Those worrysome thoughts doesn't do you any good anyway and there are so many ways that can help you to get a good nights sleep. Let the evenings be the time of relaxing and calmness that they are so well suited to be. Have some tea such as peppermint or chamomile, or a cup of warm milk. This can helps you to unwind and let go of the day.

There are many things you can do to wind down before going to bed; read a good book, listen to calming music and/or have some pleasant conversation with your partner or a friend. You can also try some relaxing exercises, such as hypnosis. Do what feels right for you.

Even though you want to eat something not too far before you're going to bed for your body to be able to grow the most, you might feel that it's easier to fall asleep if your body has been able to digest the food properly. Make your last meal one with a good amount of protein and fat and you can have it maybe one or two hours before going to bed.

Find ways that works for you. By taking sleeping medication you might fall asleep easier, but it actually makes the sleep less deep and if you're taking it every night your body will adjust to it and there's even a risk of getting dependent on them.

Just find the ways that work for you to relax deeply and your body will naturally be able to go into the sleeping state. Give your body the opportunity to do the work that it knows so well how to do. All you need is a good rest and the results come naturally.
