Key Concepts In Liquid Dancing

By: Chris Channing.

The name liquid dancing could speak for itself, as it does indeed include many dance moves that appear liquid in movement. But in actuality, liquid dancing is usually a "melting pot" of other dance techniques found in funk, interpretive dance, and other styles of artistic dance.

The common liquid dance routine will borrow several aspects of other dancing styles, and thus, it is said to be just a mixture of other styles of dance. Others claim that it is a style by itself, as it uses several principles not found in other dancing techniques. In either case, the liquid dance style takes root in the 80's and 90's eras- meaning it does indeed have a true history and time.

The overall concept in liquid dancing is to create a rhythmic sense of flow with the hands in body. It is important to note that such movements need to be in rhythm, or true liquid dancing experts claim that the dance is being performed incorrectly. Often the liquid dancer in question choreographs the moves with the music playing, either freestyle or from a previous training session.

Out of all the moves in liquid dancing, there are a few that hold to be the most popular when practicing a common liquid dance routine. The "build" move, for instance, is much like the mime type moves that incorporate interacting with abstract objects. Other moves such as the "wave" makes use of the arms and body to simulate the same moving motion found in sporting event crowds, albeit less obnoxious.

For those who don't seem to gain enough attention from their dancing routine via liquid dancing will often accommodate their dancing style with lighting- such as glowsticks. Although it is quite popular among liquid dancers to incorporate glowsticks into their routines, many modern clubs and the like will not allow such items for fear of injury and dispute concerns. Glowsticking has thus become less common in the club scene, but it still remains to be a very popular rave and party dance style.

Learning the liquid dancing style isn't hard like some dance techniques. This is because liquid dancing primarily focuses on rhythm and visual appeal instead of complex maneuvers and attention grabbing techniques. Liquid dancing can, however, use harder to learn tricks- and in which case an online video or a trip to the rental store will be necessary, as many liquid dancing moves are visual oriented. The good news is that much of the dancing style can be learned by visiting a club, watching videos, and reading more in just a few days.

Closing Comments

Raves, parties, and clubs just wouldn't be complete without the liquid dancing techniques that have become a part of common dance routines. Thus, it's important to learn such techniques to incorporate them into one's sense of dancing style. This can better diversify one's tastes, artistic direction, and overall create a better appeal to others. But before creativity takes over one's dancing routine, make sure that clubs and the like approve of some gear such as glowsticks or other light emitting devices first.
