Logical Data Recovery

By: Andrew Watson

Logical data recovery means retrieving data that are lost due to some logical problems like virus attack or corrupted by user error. In this condition, system BIOS still recognizes the drive but error occurred in data access. When system trying to access data, it shows read error. When error occurs, you need to make an image of drive, and if possible, you can do this yourself. If you don’t know anything about it then you should use data recovery software for retrieve data from damaged files and folders.
The process of imaging a drive is not easy. For it you will need to installed commercial imaging software on separate computer which has enough space to store the entire image of bad drive. It needs one hour to several days and the computer cannot be used for another work during this time. You can run logical data recovery software when you have made an image.
Data recovery software like Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software for FAT & NTFS is helpful in retrieving data lost due to logical crash. This software can also retrieve data lost due to operating system damages, virus attacks, file damages, software failures etc and also supports partition recovery from Windows Vista/XP/2000 operating system hard drives.
File and folder deletion, partition deletion, and hard drive formatting can result in lost data or missing FAT (File Allocation Table) entry. If file size is smaller than cluster size then you don’t need to Fat entry and you should get 100% recovered file. If files are larger, then files allocated in consecutive clusters, and data recovery software considers this when it rebuilds files without a FAT entry. But files that grow over time create problems.
Fragmented files with heavy data are unrecoverable, but their data is still somewhere on the disk. Practically data recovery is impossible if file’s allocation has been overwritten by another file. But it is possible theoretically to use advanced technology like MFM. But it is not very reliable extremely expensive.
