Points To Remember - Buying Used Motorcycles On eBay

By: A R Thompson

A person who wishes to buy a used motorcycle has a number of different option open to them today. They can either buy it from someone privately who has advertised in a newspaper or magazine. They could go to their local motorcycle dealer who will often have a large number available as many people will trade in their current bikes for a much newer model. Whilst the other option that is open to them is to buy it through an online auction site and in this article we will take a look at how to buy used motorcycles on the eBay auction site.

In the last few months eBay has steady increase in the number of people who are now preferring to use their site to place their motorcycles up for sale. The main reason for this being that they are actually able to target a much larger audience of people who may be interested in what they have to offer. Plus they often find that they may find the price they command is much better than if they choose to sell it privately locally.

For anyone who is considering buying themselves a motorcycle from an auction such as an eBay then there are certain things that they need to take into consideration before they start bidding. Below we take a look at just what some of these factors are.

Tip 1 - It is crucial that the first thing you do before anything else is that you read through the description that the seller has provided. If you discover that you have some questions that can not be answered through the information that has been provided on the auction page then immediately contact the seller. This is easily done by clicking on the contact seller button to be found at the top of the auction page.

Tip 2 - Sometimes you will find that the seller has included photographs of the bike for sale on their auction site listing. But these are usually very basic ones and if you can arrange for them to forward more detailed photographs relating to the tires, engine and wheels etc. Also if you can ask them if they can provide you with copies of any documentation relating to the machine especially in relationship to the who owns the motorcycle for sale. Many should be able to easily do this by scanning the details on to their PC and then forwarding them to you in an email.

Tip 3 - Look to see what feedback rating they have achieved as a seller on eBay and what kind of feedback comments they have. This again will provide you with an idea of just whether they have previously sold anything similar on the site before and also whether you feel that you are able to trust them.

Tip 4 - If at any stage you find you are having difficulty making contact with the seller then do not place a bid until you have made contact with them. However, today eBay now have a system in place where if a person wishes to they can actually retract any bids they have made on an item if they are unable to contact the seller. This then puts the responsibility squarely on to the seller's shoulders to ensure that they are available.

By keeping the above factors in mind when it comes to buying used motorcycles on eBay will help to save you a lot of heartache in the future. Also taking your time and finding out as much as you possibly can about the item in question will save you a considerable amount of money also.
