The Value of Business Process Improvement

By:

Business owners, at all times strive to ensure that their business remains profitable. This they ensure by focusing on end business objectives and most importantly, customer satisfaction levels.

To achieve these goals seamlessly, businesses use processes to ensure that the organization produces quality products and services within a certain level of productivity. The better and more effective the processes used, the more chances that the business will achieve its end business goals. However, the organization should also be ready to adjust to the changing business environment. That is why it is important for an organization to have good business improvement strategies.

Is Business Process Improvement applicable only to existing processes?

Data measurement techniques and data variables are necessary to successfully carry out a business process improvement activity. This only holds true for existing business processes. The activity ideally begins by studying the existing business process and its various elements. This is done by a procedure called process mapping. The business processes are carefully looked into to find areas of improvement, which can later be implemented.

What are the results of a Business Process Improvement?

To understand this, let us take an example. Company A is a manufacturing company which produces consumer goods for use by its customers. It produces 1000 units of a particular product on a daily basis whereas the demand has continually been 2000 units a day. The effective method that the company should employ is to reengineer their processes by business process improvement techniques to ensure that the demand of 2000 units a day is met.

Is a Business Process Improvement easy to implement?

Yes, it is easy to implement, particularly if there is a deep understanding of the process. However, one should realize that there should be an attitude that is not resistant to change. For professionals who are involved in a Business Process Improvement activity, they should be able to take employees who will be directly affected into their confidence and to gain their support even before the improvements are implemented. This is important to success as you may meet with some resistance, particularly when a process needs to be completely overhauled.

Business Process Improvement uses techniques like Kaizen, Six Sigma and Total Quality Management to help professionals achieve optimal results in their business processes.

It is important to remember that Business Process Improvement will work only with the organization working as a team. Some excellent Business Process Improvement measures have met their doom because the teams failed to work together for its success.
