To define an IP network camera in simple terms, it is a camera and computer combination that captures and sends live video over an IP network. This process allows users to view and/or manage the camera with either a Web browser or with video management software that is capable of running on any local or remote computer in a network. All authorized viewers can access images at the same network camera even if they are in different locations.

Some IP network cameras do not require a direct connection to a PC as they come with a built in web server. They operate as a stand-alone unit, which means they only need a connection to an IP network through either wired or wireless means. The wireless network connection is sometimes preferable to a wired connection because of the work involved in setting up a wired connection. This is especially true of businesses where cables may be required to connect the network from one building to the other. Of course, IP network cameras don’t have to be used solely for preventing crimes. In fact, they can be used for fun or for simply keeping in touch with friends or loved ones. What could be better than live video streaming when it comes to communicating with those you love? With the increasing use of these handy cameras, they are no longer a futuristic product seem only in science fiction movies.
